Why Adults Still Play Video Games?

21.03.2022

If you shut down your games for a second and think back to the ‘good old times’, maybe you’ll start to hear… “turn down the goddamn computer!” “don’t you have school tomorrow?” “Go ahead, play the games my son, maybe they’ll ask you about the games in the exam” bla bla bla etc etc….

But in recent years with the rise of e-sports, gaming has actually started to become a job where you can earn decent money, if you’re both skilled and lucky enough. The debate is still on about whether video games are good or bad for us. Nobody really knows the right answer, but we are still obsessed with video games. So even as we got bigger and turned from children into adults, why do we still play video games?

  1. We’re connecting with our inner child

Life is pretty boring when you do ‘adult stuff’ all the time. Very few adults get to do anything playful after work and family life set in. When we play video games, our connection to our inner child gets stronger. I believe this makes us enjoy life more than those adults who don’t play video games.

  1. Escape from stress

As we get older, we face more pressures in life; loans to pay back, jobs to be good at, and bills to pay for. Playing video games is a great way to de-stress from the demands of everyday life and do something that we enjoy.

  1. ME time

If you are one of those “I need my ‘me time’ by myself” kind of people like I am, you’ll probably never get bored of playing your favorite game, and you’ll find it to be an easy de-stresser.

  1. Easy bonding

As we get older, it often gets harder and harder to maintain good friendships. But gaming puts people together in big conventions, e-sport tournaments and even in small online games. Making a new friend is literally just one click away.

  1. Better eye and hand coordination

It’s been scientifically proven that people who play video games have better spatial coordination and fine motor skills than those who don’t. Not only will this make you more coordinated in your everyday life, but it could also help you be a better driver, keep your eyesight from failing, and even make you more intelligent.

  1. Better imagination and creativity

Video games are created by some of the world’s most creative and imaginative minds, and while we’re playing them, we are directly exposed to this. Most of the time (ok, all the time) we put ourselves in the mindset of our characters and their world, and this highly stimulating simulation exercises our brain in a uniquely creative way.

  1. Nostalgia

Apart from all of the above, video games give us that beautiful feeling of nostalgia. Who doesn’t want to re-live the happiest moments of their younger years?

As we can see, playing video games is actually a great pastime activity. Let us know what your favorite game and game character is. And who knows? Maybe we’ll become friends because of our common interest. Share our article with your friends, and don’t forget to follow us on social media
