How to Take Care of Your Mental Health?
21.03.2022
During Covid-19, we all need to take care of ourselves now more than ever, especially our mental health. Most of us are facing short or long-term lockdowns, fear of losing our jobs and we can’t socialize or do many things which used to bring us joy and happiness. Below is some practical advice on how to look after your mental health.
Keep active: Researches say regular exercise can boost your self-esteem and reduce stress. Exercise keeps the brain and other vital organs healthy. You know what they say, “a healthy body means a healthy mind.”
Eat well: Your body and organs need tons of nutrients in order to stay healthy and function well. Just like the other organs in your body, your brain needs them too.
Sleep well: Studies show that a good night’s sleep cools the brain and improves your alertness and mental efficiency. Try to sleep for at least 7 hours a night, and try to start your day early.
Keep in touch: Face-to-face is obviously not an option these days, but nothing is impossible. You can give loved ones a call, a video call or even just text them. Keep your lines of communication open.
Ask for help: Don’t forget you’re not a super hero. We all sometimes get tired or overwhelmed by how we feel or when things don’t go to plan. If things are getting too much, ask for a help from a family member, friend or a professional. They may be able to offer practical help or a listening ear.
Do something you’re good at: Doing an enjoyable activity is a great way to break out of the stress cycle. Ask yourself what you love doing and what kind of activities you lose yourself in. Doing that activity probably means you’re good at it too, and achieving something boosts your self-esteem.
Take a break: I don’t mean taking off on a long holiday. Any change of scene or change of pace is good for your mental health. It could be a five-minute pause from reading countless e-mails, or a longer lunch break so you can properly enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea after.
Go off the grid: Put your smartphone away, turn off your laptop, tablets, even e-readers. Don’t read the news and other things make you sad. Try to spend time with yourself or do something fun with someone face-to-face.
We hope for the best for everyone. Our advice won’t take up lots of time and doesn’t cost a fortune. So, why not start today? Tag your friends who need a little push in their lives and share us on social media.
