How to Improve Your Handwriting

18.03.2022

Nowadays, as more and more people start to use digital tools, handwriting is starting to fall behind. However, it’s one of the features of our characters and it will probably still exist in the future in some form, just like it does today. Improving can be a tedious and time-consuming task, but it’s not rocket science. While everyone has their own personal handwriting style, there’s always room for improvement. These tips will help you perfect your handwriting style.

1 – Maintain a relaxed grip

A comfortable grip, nice and relaxed, is the main thing to focus on first. Your grip should mean that none of the muscles in your hand are over-flexed. Lessening unnecessary strain on your joints will help you to write more smoothly.

2 – Use a nice pen

This is your personal choice. Shop around for the pen that works for you. It doesn’t matter if you prefer ballpoint, gel, fountain pens… but don’t buy one before giving it a try.

3 – Identify your imperfections

Before starting drills, you need to conduct an honest assessment of your handwriting. You can ask people how it looks and where it needs improvement. Don’t forget – no one’s perfect!

4 – Choose a style

Just a quick search of the web reveals many different handwriting styles. Visit some typography websites to give yourself a dose of inspiration. There are 2 main handwriting styles; cursive and print.

5 – Practice makes perfect

Whether you want to write in cursive or print, it can be really difficult to form nice letters without warming up. You can find cursive and print letter worksheets from the internet by doing a little googling. You can also do some doodling by drawing telephone wires, lines etc… Doing drills like this will help you to write clearly and confidently.

6 – Rotate the paper

Generally, when we first started writing, we were taught to keep our paper in a vertical position. But sometimes this can be the reason for bad handwriting. To find your correct angle feel free to experiment with different rotations.

7 – Create ways to practice

Keeping a journal is a great way to practice handwriting, plus it might help you to organize your schedule! You can also practice by writing a friend or family member a letter, finding a pen pal, or by keeping a diary. Whatever you choose, try to practice every day.

8 – Accept your personal handwriting

Your handwriting is a unique reflection of your personality and it is constantly evolving. This is one of the reasons why people love receiving handwritten notes and letters. Don’t get carried away with radical changes; instead focus on making it clear and easy to read.

We hope this post inspires you to grab your pen or pencil and write something by hand instead of using your computer keyboard again. If you need more inspiration on any topic, follow us on social media and don’t forget to share our tips.
