How To… Improve Your Efficiency at Work?

11.03.2022

In today’s busy working environment filled with pressures, we often don’t find enough time to compete the task we were supposed to finish. Many unexpected situations can make it extremely hard to finish all of our work before a given deadline. So, what should we do?

  1. Finish what you start
Don’t leave a project or task half-done, finish it. Otherwise it will make you super-stressed. Also, how can you fully focus on the next task or project knowing that you have left behind something only half-done? There’s science behind this too. Once you complete a task, endorphin hormones are released which make you happier and more relaxed, giving you a nice push to complete the next task.
  2. Plan your steps
Basically, make a to-do list. It will increase your efficiency, cut out hours of procrastination, and clear up any confusion about what you should do next. You can make either a daily, weekly or monthly list, the choice is yours.
  3. Break time
Taking regular breaks is essential to increasing your productivity. Scientists say that an adult cannot focus for over 90 minutes at a time – so you should take a break at least every 90 minutes during an activity. Keep track of the time, and reward yourself with a drink or a snack.
  4. Tidy your workspace
A messy, unorganized desk could turn into a messy, unorganized work life. Plus, it has tons of distractions. If you’re one of those people guilty of having a messy desk, you probably spend precious time every day searching for the stuff you need. By creating an organized environment for yourself, you will be able to find items easier and concentrate more on your day-to-day tasks.
  5. Be an early bird
Instead of working overtime late into the evenings, be an early bird and come to the office before everyone else. You will have less colleague-related distractions and more fresh brewed coffee, so you can focus better on your own tasks. If you complete an important task by 11 am, you’ll feel much happier and more relaxed for the rest of the day. Besides, you deserve that longer lunch break.
  6. The sky is NOT the limit
It’s important to know your limits; don’t just try and push through the fatigue. When you’re tired, your chances of making minor and major mistakes goes up. If you start feeling worn out, call it a day and start again the next day with a refreshed mind and body.
  7. Take care of yourself
Eat right, sleep well, get some exercise or meditate. If you want to achieve everything you’re aiming for, you need to try and be the best version of yourself.
