History of Apple

08.03.2022

Apple started with three men—Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Mike Markkula—who together in the late 1970s designed and marketed the Apple II series of computers. It was the first commercially successful line of personal computers, and led to the Apple Lisa in 1983—the first computer to use a mouse-driven GUI.

The name Apple was to cause Apple problems in later years as it was uncomfortably similar to that of the Beatles’ publisher, Apple Corps, but its genesis was innocent enough.

According to the biography of Steve Jobs, the name was conceived by Jobs after he returned from apple farm. He apparently thought the name sounded “fun, spirited and not intimidating.”

The name also likely benefitted by beginning with an A, which meant it would be nearer the front of any listings.

For nearly 30 years, Apple Computer Inc was primarily a pc manufacturer. Some of their main products included the Macintosh, the Apple II and the PowerMac. Contrary to its current performance, the company’s sales plummeted during the 90s. Steve Jobs had been kicked off the company only to return in 1997 when his new company next was purchased by Apple Computer Inc. About a year later, Jobs became Apple’s interim CEO, only to make his stay permanent sometime later. He instilled a brand-new philosophy that endorsed simplicity and elegance.

The iPhone was announced at the Macworld Expo on January 9, 2007. Jobs also announced that Apple Computer, Inc would thereafter be called Apple Inc. as the company had widened its emphasis to consumer electronics as well. 270,000 iPhones were sold during the first 30 hours of its sales and it came out to be known as a “game changer for the industry”. Widespread success was achieved with the introduction of iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad products.

Steve Jobs resigned from his position as CEO due to health factors on August 24, 2011, and was replaced by Tim Cook. Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011, which marked the end of an incredible era for Apple and brought a big diversion in Apple’s history.

However, Apple still continues to influence the markets with ground-breaking technological wonders to date.
